McFadden approached RE-VIVE during the early construction phase of their new office in Kirkstall, Leeds, seeking a distinctive workspace that would support their growing team and reflect both their brand identity and industry roots.
The brief was to design a sophisticated, design-led interior that would embody the essence of the McFadden brand. The space needed to not only reflect their brand identity and commitment to quality and innovation in the construction industry, but also foster closer collaboration between their office and site teams. Our approach focused on creating an environment that supports productivity while showcasing McFadden’s identity through considered materiality, refined detailing, and nods to their roots throughout the scheme from toy site machinery to a retro petrol pump.
Given McFadden’s specialism in groundworks for petrol station forecourts, it felt only fitting to weave subtle references to this into the design narrative. The welcome area is bright and airy, featuring concrete-effect tiles, light oak bespoke joinery, and lush planting that brings warmth and texture to the space. At the heart of the stairwell sits a standout feature, a retro vintage petrol pump offering a memorable moment for visitors and beginning to tell the story of who McFadden are and what they do. This curated focal point creates an immediate connection to their brand, while adding character and authenticity to the space.
Just off the entrance, the boardroom is part enclosed with reeded glass manifestations that offer privacy while softening light and colour as they filter through. The space seats up to 12 around a large bespoke meeting table, complete with plug-and-play functionality and plenty of room for spreading out construction drawings. A feature bubble pendant light adds a playful touch, designed to inspire creative thinking and conversation.
The first floor is home to the open-plan office, designed for a core team of eight with flexibility for the wider site team to collaborate. The space is zoned into distinct areas: a main desk zone, a standing breakout area inspired by a petrol station canopy, a dedicated printer and plotter station, and a relaxed sofa area for informal catch-ups. Powder-coated steel box section and perforated steel dividers, set on black timber bases, define each zone, while the flooring layout subtly guides movement through the space.
In addition to the entrance lobby, boardroom, and open-plan workspace, the project also includes a staff kitchen and a well-equipped gym with views over the surrounding greenery and a large pond. At the rear of the building full height aluminium windows fill all the rooms with natural light, each room has doors open to connect the interior with the outdoors, creating flow between spaces. Both floors take full advantage of the setting, with a balcony and decked terrace designed to promote wellbeing and make the most of the site's natural beauty.
