RE-VIVE was approached by No Hands Rest to support the development of a design-led co-working concept, aimed at securing investment for their first workspace following the success of their independent coffee shop in Kendal. The popularity of the coffee shop revealed a clear demand within Kendal’s growing freelance and self-employed community for a space that could offer more than just a desk, a place that supports productivity, creativity, and well-being. The brief was to create a co-working environment with biophilia and wellness at its core. The space needed to offer flexibility for a range of working styles, from private offices and dedicated desks to casual co-working memberships. To meet this, RE-VIVE proposed a bespoke design for the private office fronts, incorporating solid lower panels for a sense of privacy, natural timber slats for texture and warmth, and fluted glass doors to maintain light flow throughout the space while offering a level of acoustic separation.
A central feature of the space is the communal co-working table, which takes its inspiration from the No Hands Rest logo, evoking the fluid movement of the nearby river that runs through Kendal. Functionality was key to the layout: a four-person acoustic meeting pod and two private phone booths were integrated to give users access to quieter, enclosed spaces for focused calls and meetings. One of the most distinctive features is the inclusion of a Seed Pod, a sculptural meeting and breakout space that offers flexibility for team huddles, informal chats, or even group meditation sessions. Additional breakout areas include a communal kitchen and a variety of booth-style seating areas, designed to encourage interaction, conversation, and a sense of community among members. The resulting scheme is a balanced, multi-use space that fosters collaboration while offering the privacy and calm that modern professionals increasingly seek.
